It all started in 1874, William Lyle & Walter Scott saw a demand for high quality knitted underwear in Victorian Britain and decided to do something about it.

William & Walter were firm believers in the importance of quality and craftsmanship, and word son spread about Lyle & Scott’s fine knitted product. This popularity led to their small factory site in Hawick factory more tan tripling in size by 1910, as anticipated by William Lyle’s favourite motto: “Good work makes more work”.

The Original Golf Brand:

After conquering the world of menswear, Lyle & Scott turned its attention to golf. Building on our expertise in knitwear, Lyle & Scott launched its firts range of golf wear in the 1960s and we soon became known as “The Original Golf Brand”.

The launch coincided with the creation of our now iconic “Golden Eagle” motif, inspired by the eagle of “Gleneagles” world famous golf courses. Lyle & Scott’s golf range was quickly adopted by some of the world’s finest players, including Gary Player and Arnold Palmer.
